We set out to review the custom logo design services offered by Logo Design Guru. This report covers everything that we were able to find about this company by searching the Internet. We start out by profiling the company and its services and finish up with some consumer reviews and feedback from their past clients.

Overview

Logo Design Guru was founded in Pennsylvania in the US in 2003 and they also have a UK office. They claim to offer effective branding solutions to small businesses and startup ventures around the world. Within a short space of time they have grown into one of the larger logo firms on the Internet and state on their website that they have provided over 10,000 logo designs to clients so far.

Design Packages and Prices

Logo Design Gurus offer six different packages ranging from their 99’er logo package for $99 up to their superior package for $1,499 that includes logo design, stationery design, brochure design, business cards and website design.

Their base custom logo package ($99) includes two initial concepts that are worked on by multiple designers. Clients are then able to request one round of revisions to make changes to the initial design that they have selected.

The more expensive the package price is, the more you get included in the way of the number of designers, the number of concepts and the number of revisions. The more expensive packages include a custom logo as well as Logo Design Guru’s additional design services including stationery design, brochure design, business cards and web design.

Full ownership rights to the final design are given to the client while Logo Design Guru retains the rights only to the samples that were not selected.

If none of their packages appeal to you then you have the option to customize your own package specifying the number of concepts, revisions and additional services that you require. The system on their website then automatically calculates a price for you.

Other services that they offer include printing, domain name registration, web hosting, LLC incorporation and introduction to a law firm that can organize trademark search, registration and monitoring.

Guarantee Policy

The guarantee policy for Logo Design Guru can be found in their ‘Terms and Conditions’ on their website however we found it to be a little confusing and misleading. It seems to us that they do not give refunds under any circumstances unless they feel that their service was not up to standard and even then they deduct cancellation fees, starting at $99 from the refund amount. They offer a satisfactory guarantee but this is based on you having provided them with sufficient information in the briefing and then they state that if they feel that a ‘reasonable person’ as defined under Pennsylvania Law would have accepted the logos then they are not obliged to provide further designs. They basically offer a satisfaction guarantee on their website and then in the fine print they say that they don’t have to honor it if they feel that clients are being unreasonable.

Their money back and satisfactory guarantees are extremely misleading in our opinion and we advise anyone wanting to order a logo from this company to read the ‘Terms and Conditions’ themselves and to assume that there basically is no guarantee policy. Logo Design Guru has one of the worst guarantee policies that we came across in our survey of custom logo design firms.

Delivery Time

LogoDesignGuru.com will put together your initial design concepts within 3 to 5 business days. They are not emailed to you as such, but rather you are given a password to access your designs online where you can review them before requesting changes to any of the design elements. They do also offer a service whereby you can view your logo concepts the following day but this comes with a $100 surcharge.

File Formats

Files are sent in all the main formats including CDR, AI, EPS, PDF, PSD, JPG, GIF and TIF. While the basic package only includes having files emailed to you the more advanced packages include the mailing of files on a CD.

LogoDesignGuru.com provides clients with their final design in both CMYK and Pantone colors.

Design Awards and Media

Logo Design Guru seems to do very well each year at the American Graphic Design Awards scooping ten awards in 2008 and eight in 2007 for their work. The American Graphic Design Awards is sponsored by design journal Graphic Design USA and is judged by a panel of creative professionals from across the US.

The Wall Street Journal recently did a review of Logo Design Guru and three other top logo firms including The Logo Company. They noted that Logo Design Guru had impressive customer service.

Logo Design Guru Portfolio

A huge portfolio of sample designs that they have completed for clients is available for viewing on their site. Website visitors can find examples of their work in 45 different industry categories that range from everything from aviation and marine logos through to pool and hot tub business logos.

Assessment of Opinion and Reviews on the Internet

We searched the Internet thoroughly for user generated content to see if we could find any complaints or positive reviews relating to Logo Design Guru.

1) We found a Logo Design Guru Review on one site called RipoffReport.com. Several consumers had submitted complaints stating that they had negative experiences using the service. One person felt ripped off as they had requested the speedy delivery option and paid an extra $100. After waiting three days and still not having received notification that the preliminary designs were complete this person went on to miss their deadline.

2) Another poster on RipoffReport.com felt that Logo Design Guru is a scam as they had produced designs that they felt were amateurish. They had tried to pursue a refund but had received nothing after two months. View the complaint here.
